Sanz learned how to play guitar at age 7. This talent kept him out of trouble growing up in Moratalaz neighborhood in Madrid. Like many kids in low-income, high-crime areas, he played in the streets with other boys his age and considered himself the troubador of them all, the one who played guitar and sang.
